Columbia Police Department Investigators have charged a 21-year-old man in connection with the deadly weekend shooting at the Colony Apartments.

Daquan James McCoy (DOB: 2-1-1996) was located and arrested last night by Columbia Police Department investigators in partnership with the United States Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force, and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD).  McCoy was found in a car in the parking lot of Dollar General located at 1905 Bluff Road and is charged with Murder and Armed Robbery.

McCoy is accused of going to Bailey Street on February 17, 2017 to rob the male victim, who’s been identified by Richland County Coroner Gary Watts as James Dexter Grant.

Grant died from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Investigators know that McCoy was with another male at the time of the shooting and continue to gather information regarding the co-defendant.
