Crimestoppers: Fatal Shooting Investigation (Gervais Street)

By February 17, 2019Press Releases

Columbia Police Department (CPD) officers are investigating an overnight shooting that took the life of one male and wounded two others.

Shortly after 12:30 a.m., patrol officers responded to 2324 Gervais Street, the site of a party with several hundred attendees and found three victims in the parking lot.

Even though there was a large crowd, an officer immediately found one victim with significant injuries and began performing CPR on him. That individual was later pronounced deceased at the scene.

After an autopsy conducted today, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says 21-year-old Darold Kevin Dantzler, II (DOB: 6-6-1997) died as a result of gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Two additional males were treated by EMS at the scene before being taken to a local hospital.  At this time, their injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

Officers believe that there was an argument between a few people before the shooting occurred. Investigators have conducted interviews regarding the incident and are working to gather information regarding the suspect (s).
