Columbia Police Department (CPD) investigators have arrested a man in connection with last month’s fatal shooting of a teenager on Truman Street.
Police Chief W. H. ‘Skip’ Holbrook announces that 37-year-old Marcus J. Chaplin who is housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC) is charged with Murder and Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime.
Shortly after 4:00 a.m. on December 29, 2024, CPD officers initially responded to a Shotspotter alert at the 3100 block of Truman Street. While en route, the emergency call was updated to a ‘shooting hit.’
Suspect Chaplin is accused of confronting the 17-year-old male victim in a resident’s yard on Truman Street after learning of a recent relationship with a loved one. Once Chaplin encountered the victim, he allegedly shot the teen multiple times. EMS pronounced the victim deceased on scene.
