Adult Male and Two Teens Charged in Attempted Murder Investigation

Columbia Police Department (CPD) investigators have charged three people in connection with a non-fatal shooting investigation that happened in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant last month.

20-year-old Javonte Sutton is charged with Attempted Murder, Criminal Conspiracy, Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime, Discharging into an Occupied Vehicle, and Contributing to the Delinquincy of a Minor.  After the arrest, Sutton was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC).

Two 15-year-old males are charged with Attempted Murder, Criminal Conspiracy, Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime, Discharging into an Occupied Vehicle, and Possession of a Handgun under 18.  After their arrests, the minors were taken to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ).

Case Recap:

On September 20, 2024, at the Wendy’s restaurant on  Newland Drive, Sutton and his two minor co-defendants are accused of conspiring to shoot the 25-year-old male victim after a previous argument.

The victim was shot in the lower body and medically treated for his injuries.  The incident was captured on surveillance video.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
