The fatal shooting happened on the morning of May 3, 2025, in the 2700 block of Cypress Street.
- At 11:14 a.m., a 9-1-1 call was made regarding a stolen vehicle
- At 11:15 a.m., a 9-1-1 call was made after the female victim was found deceased inside a Cypress Street home.
- When CPD officers arrived on the scene, the discovery was deemed a suspicious death, pending an autopsy by the Richland County Coroner’s Office.
- The death was confirmed to be a homicide after an autopsy conducted by the Richland County Coroner’s Office.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as 22-year-old Logan Federico from Waxhaw, North Carolina. She was in town visiting friends on Cypress Street.- Logan was a true victim and not an intended target.
- Logan and her friends were out with friends the night before on May 2, 2025, and arrived back home before 3:00 a.m.
- CPD Investigators believe the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Alexander Dickey, breaks into one of the Cypress Street homes and steals keys to a vehicle, and several items, including a firearm, after rummaging through one of the rooms.
- Suspect Dickey breaks into the home next door and steals several items, including a wallet, credit cards, and debit cards.
- While in this residence, CPD investigators believe he then enters a room where Logan was located and fires the fatal shot.
- Suspect Dickey drives away in the stolen vehicle to West Columbia and goes on (what’s best described as) a shopping spree with the stolen credit and debit cards at several stores.
- Dickey then drives to Saluda County and attempts to make additional fraudulent purchases.
- The stolen vehicle will not start, leaving Dickey seemingly stranded.
- Dickey then calls for a tow service to move the stolen vehicle to a Gaston residence, the home of a female acquaintance.
- By this time, CPD investigators are working with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) and SLED to go to the Gaston home where he flees into a wooded area.
- Law enforcement worked throughout the night and into Sunday, attempting to locate Dickey.
- Around 4:00 p.m., a Lexington County resident reports a stolen vehicle. The stolen vehicle was subsequently wrecked, and Dickey fled again on foot. He made his way back to the same Gaston home, forcing entry.
- Law enforcement surrounded the residence. As law enforcement ordered him to surrender, Dickey set the home on fire and was extracted and taken into custody by the LCSO.
- Dickey was taken to a hospital where he was treated and released to law enforcement.
- CPD investigators arrived at the Lexington County Sheriff’s Office and interviewed Dickey for several hours.
- The CPD investigators will coordinate with the LCSO to ensure that the CPD warrants are served on Dickey in the coming days.
- A Lexington County judge denied Dickey’s bond on the LCSO charges.
