Arrests Made in Candi Lane Auto Break-In Cases

Columbia Police Department (CPD) Chief W. H. “Skip” Holbrook commends Candi Lane citizens for providing officers with valuable information that led to the arrests of two males accused of breaking into vehicles.

28-year-old Raekwon Ford and 18-year-old Shamari Jones, Junior, are housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

Ford is charged with Auto Breaking, Criminal Conspiracy, Possession of a Weapon by a Prohibited Person, Larceny, and Financial Credit Card Theft.

Based on felony convictions, Ford is federally prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.

Jones faces the same charges except for Possession of a Weapon by a Prohibited Person.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.

On June 22, 2025, both suspects are accused of breaking into vehicles and stealing personal belongings, including two firearms at the 600 block of Candi Lane. Witnesses provided CPD officers with a description of the two men, their getaway vehicle, including a license plate number, and direction of travel.

A patrol officer spotted the suspects’ vehicle in the Greystone Boulevard area and before he could attempt a traffic stop, the suspects lost control of the vehicle and crashed at the intersection of Broad River and Lucius Roads. Before going to the ASGDC, both suspects were medically treated as a precaution.

During the arrests, CPD officers recovered the two stolen firearms and stolen credit cards.  Additional arrests are pending.
