Columbia Police Department (CPD) investigators have arrested two men in connection with last month’s isolated fatal shooting at a Farrow Road convenience store.

Police Chief W. H. ‘Skip’ Holbrook announces that 32-year-old Steven D. Martin and 29-year-old Tyrell K. Shephard are charged with Murder, Criminal Conspiracy, Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Both suspects, housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC), were acquaintances of the victim.

The charges stem from a fatal shooting shortly after 10:00 p.m. on August 22, 2025, at 3213 Farrow Road (BP gas station). When officers arrived, they found the victim with a life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body.  EMS took the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The Richland County Coroner’s Office is assisting CPD with the investigation.

The next day (August 23), a vehicle of interest being sought by CPD officers was spotted at the 1400 block of Assembly Street.  When the CPD officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the suspect, Martin, fled, leading officers on a vehicle pursuit. RCSD assisted with the pursuit and subsequent arrest of Martin. As a result, he was charged with Failure to Stop for Blue Lights and Siren, Reckless Driving, and Two Narcotics violations.

On September 4, 2025, the CPD Fugitive Team, RCSD, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) arrested suspect Shepard at 413 Harbison Station in connection with the August fatal shooting.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
