Arrest Made in Fatal Hit-and-Run Involving a Pedestrian Investigation

The Columbia Police Department’s (CPD) Traffic Safety Unit (TSU) has arrested a man in connection with last month’s fatal hit-and-run involving a pedestrian.

According to Police Chief W.H. ‘Skip’ Holbrook, 36-year-old Elijah Green is housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC), charged with Hit and Run Involving Death, Failure to Render Aid and Provide Information, and Violation of Beginner’s Permit. A judge denied Green’s bond in court yesterday.

Case Re-Cap

Shortly before 7:00 p.m. on March 20, 2026, Green is accused of driving along the 5400 block of Forest Drive when he struck a male victim. Investigators determined that Green left the roadway, hit the curb and a stop sign, and then struck the victim with an SUV. When officers arrived, they found the victim on the ground with life-threatening injuries. The man was taken to a hospital and was pronounced deceased last week.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office assisted CPD with the investigation and will release the victim’s name.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
