Arrest Made in Fatal Hit and Run Investigation

Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook announces that a Crimestoppers tip has aided CPD Investigators in arresting a man accused in a fatal hit and run investigation involving a pedestrian.

Gary Lamont Robinson (DOB: 4-29-1982) was arrested today and is charged with Hit and Run Resulting in Death, Failure to Render Aid and Driving under Suspension.

Robinson is accused of driving along the 2500 block of Millwood Avenue last night and hitting a female pedestrian who has been identified by the Richland County Coroner’s Office as Evona Roberson Williams.

After the incident, Robinson allegedly left the scene and did not stop to render aid to the victim.

The vehicle Robinson is accused of driving, a rental car, was located on Middleton Street this morning. The car has been seized as evidence by CPD.

Several members of the CPD aided in the investigation including: the Criminal Investigations Division (CID), Traffic Safety Unit, Crime Scene Unit, and North Region Officers.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
