CRIMESTOPPERS: Year Anniversary of Shooting Death on Budon Court

By September 8, 2016December 31st, 2016Press Releases

Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook announces that today marks the year anniversary of a father’s shooting death on Budon Court.

The victim, who has been identified by the Richland County Coroner’s Office as Charles Kusko, was found deceased at the 1700 block of Budon Court on September 8, 2015.

Police were initially dispatched to the home to conduct a welfare check on Kusko when they made the discovery.

CPD Investigators do not believe the crime was a random act of violence, and that Kusko potentially knew his killer. Officers want citizens to recall the days after the crime, and report any suspicious activity, or sudden changes in behavior of someone they know. It’s is especially important to remember if anyone frequently talked about the crime or asked questions about the incident.

A $5,000 reward is still being offered for information leading to the suspect’s arrest. Kusko’s daughters say it has been difficult waiting for answers that will help solve the case.

Laurin Barnes says, “It’s an awful feeling day-in and day-out and we’re just begging someone to come

forward. If not for him, do it for us. We’re still here. We’re still hurting and struggling each day that

goes by.”

“The healing process hasn’t been able to happen because we don’t know who did this,” says Kaitlin Huffstetler.
