Fatal Hit and Run Investigation

Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook is asking the public to call CRIMESTOPPERS with information regarding an overnight fatal hit and run incident.

The 54-year-old male victim was walking across the roadway at the 1400 block of Barnwell Street shortly after midnight.

A CPD officer on patrol found the man lying in the roadway with severe injuries and called for EMS to take him to the hospital. The victim was pronounced deceased a short time later.

Preliminary information indicates that the unknown vehicle was traveling south on Barnwell Street and struck the victim who was unlawfully in the roadway.

CPD is working to determine if surveillance cameras captured the incident on video.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office is assisting CPD with the investigation.
