By October 20, 2016December 31st, 2016Press Releases

Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook announces that the driver accused of hitting and killing a pedestrian early this morning in North Columbia has been arrested.

Bettika Tuwana Salley (DOB: 2-19-1991) is charged with Felony DUI Resulting in Death, Hit and Run with Death and Failure to Render Aid.

Salley is accused of hitting a male pedestrian at the 6000 block of Farrow Road (intersection of Farrow Road and Broadland Avenue) shortly before 5:30 a.m. and failing to stop to render aid.

CPD gathered valuable information about the incident from a witness who also followed the suspect’s car to Prescott Road while immediately notifying dispatchers. The caller provided a description of the vehicle, including a license plate number and waited for law enforcement to arrive on scene.

Shortly after the crime, Salley was located at Prescott Manor Apartments (1601 Prescott Road) in the driver’s seat of a damaged vehicle matching the description the witness provided. Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from Salley and placed her under arrest. Salley was later transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

The damaged vehicle has been seized by CPD and will be processed for evidence.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office is assisting CPD’s Traffic Safety Unit (TSU) and Criminal Investigations Division (CID) with the case.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
