Columbia Police Chief William “Skip” Holbrook announces a shooting investigation.
The incident occurred on Friday, November 25, 2016, at the 700 block of Gervais Street in the Vista at approximately 2 a.m. Officers responded to a call for service pertaining to gunshots and an individual being struck.
While en route, officers observed a red truck at the intersection of Assembly and Gervais streets, fitting the description of the vehicle that was seen fleeing the scene of the shooting.
Officers initiated a suspicious vehicle stop on Assembly Street. They found it to be occupied by multiple individuals, and within the vehicle, two (2) handguns were recovered.
On scene of the incident, officers made contact with the victim who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the leg. A responding officer applied a tourniquet to the victim, and they were transported to the hospital via EMS, then taken into emergency surgery. The victim is now out of surgery, recovering from injuries.
Investigators have collected evidence from the crime scene, and are currently following up on leads.
