The Columbia Police Department’s South Region officers have arrested a 24-year-old man who’s accused of shooting a stolen gun in a neighborhood near Rosewood Drive last night.

Jamel Solomon (DOB: 7-17-1992) is charged with Possession of a Stolen Gun and Discharging a Firearm within City Limits.

Officers received a community tip about shots being fired shortly before 6:30 last night at the 2200 block of Kingswood Drive.  When they responded to the scene, they found Solomon based on a description provided by witnesses at the scene.

While talking with Solomon and during a search, they found the .22-caliber handgun in his pants pocket. Officers learned that the gun was stolen from CPD jurisdiction after a check of the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database. The weapon has been placed into evidence.

Solomon was housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC). He is currently out of jail on a $15,000 surety bond.

Suspect: Jamel Solomon
