Crimestoppers: Deadly Overnight Shooting

Columbia Police Officers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding a deadly overnight shooting.

Initially, officers were dispatched to the scene for a burglary call and saw signs of a break-in. When they entered the home to investigate further, they found a man deceased. Officers also learned that several electronics were stolen from the home.

According to Richland County Coroner Gary Watts, 43-year-old Marlon Terrell Butler, Sr. died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. Butler was pronounced deceased inside a home at 2353 Candwenn Court near Two Notch Road shortly before 2:00 a.m.

At this time, Investigators continue to determine exactly what happened, including talking with people to gather information on the suspect or suspects.
