Columbia Police Investigators have charged a man in connection with an isolated shooting incident that happened earlier this week.
Michael Xavier Jones (DOB:11-7-1993) is charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime.
Jones was arrested yesterday by the Midlands Gang Task Force on South Lake Drive in Lexington County. Jones is accused of shooting a man in the lower body after an argument and fight at 927 Elmwood Avenue on Wednesday, July 5, 2017.
The victim was located at the intersection of Elmwood Avenue and Park Street and taken to a local hospital. His injuries, while serious, were not life-threatening.
It’s believed that Jones initially left the scene after the argument and returned to shoot the victim from inside a car.
Jones is currently housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC).
All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
