Columbia Police Department To Unveil New Ice Cream Truck at 2017 National Night Out Kick Off

The Columbia Police Department (CPD) has added a new vehicle to its fleet that is certain to turn a few heads around the city. The CPD ice cream truck, outfitted with free frozen treats and uniformed officers, will be making its debut for an official unveiling at the 10th annual National Night Out Kick Off on Friday, July 28. The ice cream truck will be used for City of Columbia community engagement efforts by CPD and the Parks and Recreation Department at community events.

 

The 2017 National Night Out Kick Off is an annual celebration for Columbia residents dedicated to helping build police-community partnerships. This year’s event will feature the unveiling of CPD’s new ice cream truck alongside exhibitors, food, entertainment, door prizes and games geared towards fellowship between family, friends and neighbors.

 

“The addition of an ice cream truck is part of our ongoing Community Policing initiatives,” stated Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook. “We want to break down barriers and connect with youth in our community to continue bridging the gap between them and law enforcement.”

 

WHO: Major Stephen K. Benjamin, Columbia City Council, City Manager Teresa Wilson, City of Columbia’s Police Department, Community Development Department, Parks and Recreation Department, the Columbia Council of Neighborhoods and local residents.
