Charges Filed in Greenlawn Cemetery Collision

Columbia Police Investigators have arrested a 64-year-old man in connection with a collision at Greenlawn Cemetery that injured multiple people who were attending a graveside funeral.

James B. Kester (DOB: 8-6-1952) is charged with Twelve Counts of Attempted Murder.

He will be housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC).

Kester is accused of intentionally driving his car into the twelve victims at a grave site on Leesburg Road earlier this afternoon. The victims, ranging from 78-to-11-years-old were treated at local hospitals for their non-life threatening injuries.

After the incident, officers were able to detain Kester and bring him to the police station for questioning.

CPD Investigators continue to determine the  motive for the crime.  There is no indication at this time that Kester is acquainted with the victims.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
