By September 8, 2017Press Releases

Columbia Police officers have arrested a teenager and an adult in two overnight auto-breaking investigations.

A 15-year-old boy is charged with Auto Breaking after being accused of breaking into a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am that was parked at the 3900 block of Bentley Drive shortly before 1:00 a.m. Thankfully, nothing was stolen.

The victim was able to witness the young male getting out of his car. After calling 9-1-1, the victim provided a description of the suspect to a CPD officer.

The teen was located and arrested near the incident location and released to a relative.

Approximately three hours later, 56-year-old Edward Richardson (DOB: 11-23-1966) was arrested and charged with Auto Breaking. Richardson is accused of rummaging through an unlocked  2008 Dodge Caravan at the 1400 Devonshire Drive.

The victim’s car alarm sounded, causing him to wake up and check on his vehicle. The victim was able to positively identify Richardson as the suspect after reviewing surveillance video of the crime.

Richardson was also located and arrested near the crime scene and taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC).

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
