By October 17, 2017Press Releases

Columbia Police Department investigators have upgraded charges to murder against a man accused of assaulting an elderly victim last month.

Corey Todd (DOB: 4-2-1975) is accused of punching the 81-year-old victim in the face on September 10, 2017 while at 900 Taylor Street (Finlay Park).

Investigators believe Todd committed the act after not getting money from the victim who’s been identified by Richland County Coroner Gary Watts as 81-year-old John Bagley.

Coroner Watts adds that Bagley died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head. The victim was found deceased in his Irmo home on September 26, 2017.

An arrest warrant reflecting the current charge of murder was served on Todd on Friday, October 13, 2017. CPD investigators upgraded the charge once all of the medical reports and exams were completed and turned in to CPD for review.

Initially, officers detained and arrested Todd on scene the day of the incident and charged him with Assault and Battery.

Todd remains booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC).

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
