CPD Officer Recovers Stolen Gun and Arrest Female Suspect

By October 24, 2017Press Releases

Columbia Police Department (CPD) officers have charged a 35-year-old female accused of shooting a stolen pistol after a car break-in last night.

Susanne Lynnette Purdy (DOB: 10-8-1982) is charged with Two Counts of Auto Breaking, Larceny, Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol, Discharging a Firearm within City Limits, Possession of Marijuana, Public Disorderly Conduct, and Unlawful Use of a License.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m. at 600 Gervais Street.

Officers initially responded there for a disturbance call for service and found Purdy, who appeared to be intoxicated in the roadway.  Purdy is accused of running away from the CPD officer, but after detaining her nearby, the officer discovered that she was in possession of marijuana.

During the arrest, Purdy allegedly gave the officer a false name. Officers were able to verify her true identity with the use of a fingerprint scanner. Purdy also confessed to the CPD officer of stealing a pistol from a vehicle and firing it several times. No one was injured, but officers found shell casings and property damage to a vehicle.

During a second auto-breaking, Purdy is accused of stealing debit cards, cigarettes, and an identification card. All of the stolen items were recovered.

Purdy was booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC).

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
