By November 30, 2017Press Releases

Columbia Police Department (CPD) officers have arrested a woman who was wanted out of  Virginia for an alleged kidnapping.

Members of the Traffic Safety Unit (TSU) and Fugitive Team served a Fugitive from Justice warrant on Cherry Kersey (DOB: 7-30-1986) after a traffic stop at the 5700 block of Colonial Drive on November 27, 2017.

A TSU officer stopped Kersey for speeding and when he investigated further, Kersey’s name appeared in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database as being wanted by the Richmond Police Department.

In that jurisdiction, Kersey was accused of taking her son across state lines without permission. Richmond Police have an outstanding Kidnapping-Minor-Parental warrant for her arrest.  Cherry will remain at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC) until an extradition process.

Court arrangements are being made to determine who will take care of the child.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
