Crimestoppers | Auto-Breaking Suspect

The Columbia Police Department (CPD) Property Crimes investigators are working to identify a man accused of breaking into vehicles and stealing miscellaneous items.

The first incident occurred shortly after 10:00 p.m. on April 4, 2018 at 126 Lincoln Street.

It’s believed that the suspect broke into a 2006 Jeep Cherokee and stole a purse, money, credit cards and identification documents.

The suspect was captured on surveillance video fraudulently using the credit card at a convenience store located at 205 Assembly Street.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In other case, the same suspect is accused of breaking into an unlocked vehicle, a 2009 Acura and stole money and sunglasses.

Auto-Breaking Prevention tips:
• Always lock your vehicle’s doors
• Close windows/sunroof
• Do not leave valuables in plain view
• Consider anti-theft security device / alarm

If your car is stolen:

  •   Call 9-1-1
  •  Make sure you know the license plate and vehicle’s VIN numbers
  •  If you see someone stealing your car, try to get a good description of the suspect (s).

It’s also beneficial to take a picture of your vehicle for record keeping purposes. You can give the picture to law enforcement to aid in the vehicle’s recovery.

It is also important to report auto breaking or larceny incidents to your local law enforcement agency.
