Additional Charges for Teen Attempted Murder Suspect

Columbia Police Department (CPD) investigators have placed additional charges on a teen suspect accused of shooting a female multiple times last weekend.

16-year-old Jaleel Brown, who is expected to be tried as an adult under SC law, is also charged with Attempted Criminal Sexual Conduct – First Degree and Attempted Armed Robbery.

Brown remains at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC) under no bond on the following initial charges: Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime.

All of the charges stem from an incident from Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the 600 block of Easter Street.

Brown is accused of trying to rob money from the 55-year-old victim and threatening to commit a sexual act against her. After Brown asked for money, he’s accused of shooting the victim multiple times.

The victim continues to recover from her injuries.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
