CPD K-9 Teams Locate Suspect After Brief Police Pursuit

Several Columbia Police Department (CPD) officers, including K-9 Team members located and apprehended a 24-year-old man after a brief police pursuit in North Columbia.

As a result, Jason Tremaine Spann (DOB: 7-26-1993) is charged with Hit and Run (Attended Vehicle), Reckless DrivingPossession of a Stolen Vehicle, Failure to Stop for Blue Lights and Siren, Failure to Stop on Police Command, and Driving Under Suspension (2nd offense), and Habitual Offender (Third Conviction).

The charges stem from an incident that started at approximately 9:00 a.m. today with an attempted traffic stop at 6132 Main Street.  Spann allegedly refused to stop for police blue lights, left the area and traveled to North Main Street and Prescott Road.  Spann also struck an occupied utility truck at that location and continued driving to Interstate-20 near Farrow Road. The victim inside of the truck was not injured during the collision.

During Spann’s attempt to elude CPD, the vehicle, which was reported stolen from Charlotte, North Carolina, blew a tire but Spann managed to make it to Railroad Avenue where he stopped the vehicle and ran from police.  CPD set up a perimeter around Railroad Avenue and searched for Spann for less than an hour.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
