The Columbia Police Department’s (CPD) Traffic Safety Unit is investigating a fatal collision involving three vehicles that occurred last night.
The incident happened shortly before 11:30 p.m. at 1500 Broad River Road.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a 24-year-old male victim appeared to be speeding in a Honda Civic in the eastbound lane and failed to stop, striking the rear of a Jeep Wrangler. That impact caused the Jeep to get pushed into the rear of another vehicle.
The victim in the Honda was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office is assisting with the investigation.
