Male Charged in Burglary and Assault Investigations

Columbia Police Department (CPD) Special Victims Unit (SVU) investigators have charged a 26-year-old man in connection with a series of home burglaries that occurred in downtown yesterday.

Evrard Tehua (DOB: 10/1991) was arrested early this morning with the assistance of the Cayce Department of Public Safety, and is currently housed at the Lexington County Detention Center charged with Seven Counts of Burglary – Second Degree, Four Counts of Assault and Battery First Degree, and Petit Larceny.

Tehua is accused of breaking into several apartments primarily belonging to females in the 1700-1800 block of Greene Street at approximately 7:00 a.m. on September 11, 2018.

Tehua accused of breaking into additional apartments on the same day at the 600 block of Heyward Street at approximately 8:00 a.m.

Tehua is further accused of assaulting the victims in their homes.

When they confronted the suspect, the victims reported that Tehua immediately left the scene. In at least one case on Greene Street, Tehua allegedly stole money from the victims.

Once Tehua appears in bond court for unrelated charged in Lexington County, he is expected to be transferred to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC).

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
