City of Columbia’s Storm Recovery and Clean-Up Operations Update

On behalf of the City of Columbia’s Public Relations Staff:

City of Columbia officials held a press conference today, Thursday, October 11, 2018, and provided an update to citizens about storm recovery and cleanup operations.

There were 44 calls related to trees. This consists of multiple tree type calls such as limbs down, trees down, trees on power lines, etc.

Over the last five (5) years the City has invested $100 million plus in four (4) specific sewer infrastructure projects.  Today those projects saved the City 20 million gallons of spillage from reaching rivers and streams.

Columbia Police Department (CPD) responded to 104 emergency calls for service. Columbia-Richland Fire Department (CFD) responded to 254 emergency calls for service.

The main problem areas were Main/Whaley. The Columbia Police Department assisted DOT with traffic control and Columbia Fire Department patrolled the area to ensure citizens safety.

City’s Street Division, Columbia Police Department and Columbia Fire Department assisted with precautionary measures.

Columbia’s Police, Fire and Forestry departments assisted with a tree on a house, located on Randall Avenue with 2 individuals on the inside. One (1) individual extricated and transported with non-life threatening injuries.

City of Columbia offices will resume operations during regular business hours tomorrow, Friday, October 12, 2018.

Please use caution while driving and when walking across parking lots and walkways to enter a building. If you have any issues or concerns, please contact your supervisor.
