Columbia Police Department (CPD) investigators with the Special Victims Unit (SVU) are investigating a reported criminal sexual assault that occurred last weekend.

CPD officers were dispatched to 1003 Elmwood Avenue shortly after 1:00 a.m. on November 3, 2018.

Initially, a security officer told officers that he heard a female in distress while he walked along Elmwood Avenue.

When he investigated, he found the partially dressed victim and the male suspect choking her.

When the security officer tried to intervene, the suspect ran away. EMS was then called to render aid to the victim who subsequently received multiple injuries including a broken nose and swollen eyes. The victim has since been treated and released from a local hospital.

The suspect is described as a black male possibly between 45-50 years-old, approximately 6’0 tall and possibly weighing 200 pounds. He was reportedly last seen wearing a blue jacket, blue jeans, with a white and blue knit cap with orange and red trim with gray shoes.
