Columbia Police Department (CPD) investigators have charged an armed robbery suspect in connection with six additional crimes that occurred in October and November in South Columbia.
James McCray (DOB: September 1993) was arrested yesterday after CPD officers found him living in a vacant apartment at Lake Shore Village. He was initially charged in relation to the November 11, 2018 armed robbery at the CVS store located at 7749 Garners Ferry Road.

Collectively, McCray is now charged with:
Three Counts of Armed Robbery
Kidnapping
Assault and Battery – First Degree
Assault and Battery – Third Degree
Three Counts of Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime
Strong Arm Robbery
Two Counts of Shoplifting
During the armed robbery incidents, McCray is accused of using a sharp object to threaten the lives of the store clerks while stealing money. He also allegedly stole hundreds of dollars’ worth of cigarettes during the other cases, and pushing convenience store employees in the process.
McCray is housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
