Holiday Public Safety Checkpoint Tonight and Rest of December

The Columbia Police Department’s (CPD) Traffic Safety Unit is partnering with the South Carolina Highway Patrol’s annual Sober or Slammer Campaign which focuses on impaired driving prevention.

Beginning tonight and through the rest of December, CPD will conduct public safety checkpoints to make roadways safe during the busy holiday weekend and travel season.

In South Carolina, a driving under the influence (DUI) arrest carries hefty fines and significant jail time, based on the offense under SC Code of Laws:

Whether its during the holiday season, or during the rest of the rear, never get behind the wheel of a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, always designate a sober driver and call 9-1-1 or to report a suspected drunk driver.
