Columbia Police Chief W. H. “Skip” Holbrook announces the arrest of a 29-year-old man accused of committing a lewd act on a child.
Clayton T. Jones (DOB: 7-17-1990) is charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor (Third Degree) after being arrested this morning by the CPD Warrant Team. Jones is scheduled for a bond hearing at approximately 9:00 a.m. tomorrow at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC) bond court.
Jones, who is a registered sex offender in Richland County is accused of touching a 7-year-old girl in a sexual manner on June 23, 2019. The child disclosed information about the criminal act to her mother who then notified police.
The child did not previously know the suspect.
All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
