City of Columbia s 41st Annual Veterans Day Parade | Traffic Notification

The City of Columbia s 41st Annual Veterans Day Parade is scheduled for Monday, November 11.

The parade, known as one of the Southeast’s largest Veterans Day parades, will begin at 11 a.m. from the intersection of Sumter and Laurel streets  and travel southbound on Sumter Street ending at Pendleton Street near the State House. The parade will likely end at 12:30 p.m.

This year’s grand marshals will be representatives from the Great American Defense Community.

The Veterans Day Parade is sponsored by the City of Columbia and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of South Carolina, WIS-News 10, University of South Carolina, Chamber of Commerce, Fort Jackson, Year of the Veteran Truck and United Service Organizations.

Columbia Police Department officers will monitor the parade route to ensure public safety. They will be wearing police uniforms and bright yellow traffic safety vests. Please adhere to their directions. If you need assistance while enjoying the parade, be sure to speak with one of them.

Also, CPD officers will barricade several intersections along the parade route on Monday. In particular, Sumter Street between Hampton and Lady Streets will close at 7:30 a.m. for set up; and Assembly Street between Richland and Sumter Streets.

Members of the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services, Bureau of Protective Services, Benedict College, Allen University and Columbia Housing Authority will assist CPD with parade duties.
