Man Arrested in Child Abuse Investigation

Columbia Police Department (CPD) investigators with the Special Victim’s Unit (SVU) have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the physical abuse of a three-month old boy.

Tyrone L. Weeks is housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC) under a $750,000 surety bond charged with Attempted Murder and Unlawful Conduct Toward a Child. Weeks was located and arrested Friday night by CPD officers and members of the United States Marshal’s Service (USMS).

Weeks is accused of assaulting a three-month old relative on December 2, 2019 at a Bailey Street home. The child’s mother took the baby to a local hospital for treatment and medical staff notified CPD. According to doctors, the victim had multiple life-threatening injuries, both internally and externally to his upper and lower body.

The victim has been released from the hospital and is custody of the South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS).

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
