CPD’s Traffic Safety Unit to Conduct Public Safety Checkpoint | May 29, 2020

The Columbia Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit will conduct a public safety checkpoint in areas of North Columbia tomorrow, May 29, 2020. In addition to addressing citizen’s concerns, officers will enhance patrols to deter reckless and impaired driving, speeding and other motor vehicle violations that can cause collisions.

Every vehicle that enters a checkpoint will be stopped and officers will check drivers for the following:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Possible Impairment
  • Seat Belt Use
  • Proper child restraints (when applicable)
  • Any other violations of law that may be observed

Drivers are encouraged to call 9-1-1, or *HP if they suspect that a driver is impaired or reckless.
