April 8, 2020, an officer with Columbia Police Department was involved in a
shooting incident which led to the death of Joshua Ruffin.
Per policy of Columbia
Police Department, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) was
called upon to investigate this matter. The investigation has been concluded and the
file turned over to the Fifth Circuit Solicitor’s Office. I am now reviewing the file
which includes incident reports, body-worn cameras, videos, and witness
statements. Upon completion of my review, I will share information with the public.
