Update: Second Arrest Made in Senate Street Fatal Shooting Investigation

By October 8, 2020Press Releases

The Columbia Police Department (CPD) announces a second arrest in connection with this weekend’s fatal shooting incident on Senate Street.

According to Columbia Police Chief W.H. “Skip” Holbrook, 20-year-old Zachery Jamell Williams (DOB: 3-20-2000) turned himself in to CPD officers at approximately 10:00 a.m. today. He is now charged with Murder, Armed Robbery, and Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime.

His co-defendant, Xavier York Glover (DOB: 5-17-2000) was previously arrested and charged with Murder and Armed Robbery.  Both suspects are housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC).

Preliminary information:

CPD investigators believe the two suspects saw the male victim, who’s been identified by Richland County Coroner Gary Watts as 26-year-old Wesley Colin Brown walking alone along the 1700 block of Senate Street on Sunday morning. Shortly after seeing Brown, it’s believed Williams approached him, stole a personal belonging and shot him before the two suspects drove away from the scene.

After the crime, a couple out for a morning walk found Brown and called 9-1-1. When officers and EMS arrived, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
