Duo Charged in Church Property Theft Investigation

Columbia Police Department (CPD) investigators have arrested two people in connection with stealing valuable church property.

55-year-old Deborah Leslie and 57-year-old Gary Nichols are housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC) charged with Criminal Conspiracy and Grand Larceny.

Leslie and Nichols were located in Lexington County today by CPD Southeast Region officers and deputies with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO).

The pair is accused of stealing a set of candlesticks worth a reported $2100 on March 18, 2021 from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Devine Street.

CPD investigators were able to identify the suspects after reviewing surveillance video from the crime scene. Meanwhile, efforts are being made to find the stolen property.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
