Attempted Murder Arrest | Devine Street

The Columbia Police Department (CPD) has arrested a 21-year-old male after an early morning shooting incident at a South Columbia business.

Johnathan Alexander Amal Wise (DOB: 9/1999) is charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Firearm during a Violent Crime.

Wise remains housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC) after a judge denied bond. He’s accused of shooting the 33-year-old male victim in the lower body at 2112 Devine Street (Jake’s of Columbia).

At approximately 12:30 a.m., CPD officers were dispatched to the business for an emergency call regarding a shooting.

Preliminary information indicates that business staff including the victim told Wise to leave the establishment due to unruly and disruptive behavior. As Wise was being escorted out of the business, he allegedly discharged a firearm at the two employees, striking one in the lower body. The victim remains hospitalized for a non-life threatening injury. There were no other reported injuries.

After the shooting, Wise is accused of running from the scene but was found and arrested by CPD officers moments later at the 2300 block of Devine Street. There is no threat to the public from the isolated incident.

CPD officers interviewed several witnesses and reviewed and collected valuable surveillance video of the crime.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
