The Columbia Police Department’s (CPD) Traffic Safety Unit (TSU) continues to investigate a fatal collision involving three vehicles at the intersection of Trenholm Road and South Beltline Boulevard yesterday afternoon.
Preliminary information:
At this time, it is believed that vehicle 1 with two passengers was traveling southbound on Beltline Boulevard.
Vehicle 2 with two passengers was traveling eastbound and was stopped at a red light at the intersection.
Vehicle 3 with seven passengers, including two adults and 5 children was attempting to make a left-hand turn westbound onto Trenholm Road and allegedly failed to yield. It’s not believed that the passengers were restrained. The vehicle was struck by vehicle 1, causing vehicle 3 to make impact with vehicle 2.
The adult female passenger in vehicle 3 suffered fatal injuries. At last check this morning, two of the injured children remain in critical condition at a local hospital.
All other passengers in the vehicles were not seriously wounded. The Richland County Coroner’s Office is assisting CPD. The case remains ongoing.
