Columbia Police Department (CPD) officers are investigating a shooting incident from earlier this month on Waverly as a murder and have identified the suspect accused of the crime.
Police Chief W. H. ‘Skip’ Holbrook announces that 25-year-old Sarah Elizabeth Eltman was arrested yesterday by the United States Marshal’s Service’s (USMS) Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force in Gulf Port, Mississippi.
Once Eltman is extradited to South Carolina, CPD Violent Crimes Unit investigators will charge her with Murder and Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime.
Eltman is accused of shooting the victim identified by the Richland County Coroner’s Office as 49-year-old Bobby O. Steele after an argument at the 2100 block of Waverly Street on October 5, 2023.
Steele was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased on October 17, 2023.
All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
