Columbia Police Department (CPD) officers have arrested a 53-year-old man in connection with an overnight fatal shooting investigation.
Police Chief W.H. ‘Skip’ Holbrook announces that Bernard Jackson, Junior is housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, charged with Manslaughter and Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime.

Jackson is accused of fatally shooting a 33-year-old male who worked at ‘S. Bar and Grill’ located at 7535 Garners Ferry Road. The Richland County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as 33-year-old Wendell F. Sholar.
Preliminary information:
Shortly after midnight, as patrons were leaving the ‘S. Bar and Grill‘, two CPD officers responded to a fight between two males in the parking lot. During the chaos, the suspect involved in the fight shot the victim. Subsequently, the suspect, Jackson, was arrested on the scene. Officers rendered medical aid to the victim before EMS arrived.
All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
