Case Recap:

Shortly after 5:00 a.m. on June 6, 2025, CPD officers were patrolling in the Elmwood Park neighborhood when they received a call about a possible auto break-in in progress in the 2400 block of Lincoln Street. Officers, who were a few blocks away, proceeded immediately.

While they were en route, the emergency call was upgraded to a ‘shots fired’ call, and ‘person hit.’ They arrived within a minute at 2408 Lincoln Street, a two-story residence.

Officers heard screams from within the residence and forced entry through the front door. They immediately encountered a chaotic crime scene with multiple victims.

Officers found four young people shot multiple times. They rendered aid by using a tourniquet until EMS arrived. They also detained several people who were not injured but present outside and inside the residence during the shooting.

According to the Richland County Coroner’s Office, 18-year-old Jayden Brackins died from multiple gunshot wounds.

The three surviving gunshot victims are a 17-year-old male and two 18-year-old females – all from Columbia-Richland County and all remain hospitalized in stable condition.

The motive for the fatal shooting remains under investigation.
