Investigators with the Columbia Police Department’s (CPD) Violent Crimes Against Persons Unit (VCAP) have made two arrests in connection with the isolated, fatal shooting of a 27-year-old female who was found on Assembly Street.

Chief W. H. “Skip” Holbrook announces that CPD officers and the Fugitive Team arrested 32-year-old Daeqan Cole less than 24 hours after the shooting and charged him with Murder, Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. The last charge stems from a 2015 accessory after the fact of murder conviction in another law enforcement jurisdiction.

His reported girlfriend, Chelsy Kyzer is charged with Accessory after the Fact of Murder for allegedly helping Cole evade law enforcement capture.

At last check, both suspects remained housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. A judge has set Kyzer’s surety bond at $10K.

* All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law. *

Incident Recap:

On Friday, February 20, 2026, CPD officers were initially dispatched to the 2000 block of Assembly Street and found the injured victim in the roadway. An officer immediately rendered medical aid until EMS arrived on scene. The victim was taken to a local hospital and was pronounced deceased by medical staff. The Richland County Coroner’s Office is assisting CPD with the investigation.

While a motive for the shooting remains under investigation, CPD investigators believe suspect Cole argued with the victim moments before the shooting occurred.
