Crime Tip Leads to Arrest of Three Teens in Weapons Investigation

Two teenagers including a juvenile have been charged in connection with a weapons investigation.

After a crime tip, officers went to 901 Colleton Street shortly before 6:00 p.m. yesterday and found three teens outside of the apartment complex. Two are accused of possessing a loaded handgun.

13-year-old boy and Daryl Louis Omar Sutton (DOB:12-27-1999) are charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol and Possession of a Firearm by Person under the Age of 18. Officers securely collected the loaded handgun as evidence and noticed that the weapon’s serial number was partially obliterated. After a check through a national database, the gun was not deemed stolen.

Another teen, Rodregus Benefield (DOB: 12-22-1999) is accused of running away from the scene and ignoring police commands to stop. He is charged with Failure to Stop on Police Command.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
