Arrest Made in Deadly Hit and Run Incident

A Crimestoppers tip has led to the identification and arrest of a 19-year-old female in connection with a deadly hit and run collision from Friday night.

Alex Carolyn Graves (DOB: 9-23-1997) is charged with Hit and Run Involving Death, Failure to Render Aid, No Driver’s License and Operating an Uninsured Vehicle.

Traffic Safety Unit officers and investigators found Graves at a home on Sweet Thorne Circle in Irmo this morning.  Graves cooperated with police and came to Columbia Police Headquarters to be interviewed.

Investigators received a Crimestoppers tip about Graves’ involvement in the crime which occurred shortly after 6:30 p.m. on March 3, 2017 at the 3600 block of Broad River Road.

According to Richland County Coroner Gary Watts, 67-year-old Alicesene Dear Gilmore died from blunt force traumas to the torso.

Graves is accused of hitting victim Gilmore with a white, 2000 Ford Crown Victoria and failing to stop and render aid to the victim who was walking across the street with two relatives.

Graves has been booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC).

 All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
