Columbia Police Officers Make Arrest in Weekend Shooting Investigation

Columbia Police investigators have arrested a man in connection with an isolated weekend shooting.

Michael DeWayne Haggwood (DOB: 7-14-1981) is charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime. The arrest was a joint effort by the Midlands Gang Task Force.

Haggwood is accused of shooting a 22-year-old man twice in the leg. The victim continues to recover from his non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses tell CPD investigators that they saw Haggwood shoot the man from a gray Crown Victoria shortly after 3:00 p.m. at 320 South Beltline Boulevard on Sunday, March 19, 2017. No one else was injured.

The shooting’s motive stems from an on-going argument between the two.

Haggwood is currently housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC).

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
