Update: Additional charges for Suspect Accused of Assaulting an Elderly Man

The man accused of assaulting an elderly man inside of a hospital bathroom is now facing additional charges.

In particular, the suspect gave Columbia Police officers the wrong name during arrest.

The suspect’s real name is Gregory Timothy Michael (DOB: 12-24-1986). According to investigators, upon arrest, he provided a relative’s name of Johnathon Darnell Michael and the wrong date of birth.

Gregory Michael is expected to be charged with Giving False Information to Police and an upgraded charge of Second Degree Assault and Battery. He was previously charged with Third Degree Assault and Battery and Escape.

On Wednesday, Gregory Michael is accused of hitting a 69-year-old man in the face with a fist while at 1330 Taylor Street. The victim received immediate medical attention at the same location. (Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital).

Gregory Michael remains at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC).  A judge set a $150,000 bond for the assault and escape charges and $465.00 for the false information charge.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
