Teen Charged in Deadly Shooting Investigation

Columbia Police Investigators continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a 19-year-old male.

The incident happened shortly after 6:00 p.m. Friday at the 1500 block of Lorick Avenue.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts has identified the teen as Christopher Ladarren Simmons (DOB: 11-22-1997). Watts adds that Simmons died from multiple gunshot wounds to the body.

CPD Investigators have arrested a 14-year-old male in connection with the shooting. At this time, he is charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm under the Age of 18.

Investigators continue to gather information regarding the shooting, including talking with people at the scene and consulting with the Fifth Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
