Teen Charged in Park Ranger Assault Investigation

An 18-year-old has been charged in connection with last week’s assault on a City of Columbia park ranger.

Zachary Sanders (DOB:8-9-1998) is charged with Assault and Battery – Third Degree.

Sanders turned himself in to CPD on Saturday morning and was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. He is currently out of jail on a $1,087 bond.

Sanders is accused of assaulting a female park ranger on May 17, 2017 at 4122 River Drive after she told him that fishing was prohibited at that location. Sanders allegedly became agitated and pushed her into rocks, causing a back injury.

The park ranger was taken to a local hospital for her non-life threatening injury. No one else was physically hurt during the incident.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
